Gallatin Enhances Downtown Wi-Fi with a High-Tech Scavenger Hunt on Saturday May 3

Downtown Gallatin is getting a major tech upgrade, and the community is invited to celebrate in the most fun way possible—with a digital scavenger hunt!

On Saturday, May 3rd, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Gallatin Chamber of Commerce will host Square Search, a family-friendly event marking the official enhancement of Connect Gallatin—a free public Wi-Fi network that now offers stronger, more consistent connectivity throughout the downtown area and even stretches to the Farmers Market at Franklin Street. The celebration also includes the debut of a brand-new interactive digital kiosk, bringing a whole new level of convenience and discovery to both visitors and residents alike.

A Visitor Checking It Out

“This has been a long time coming,” says Kim Baker, President and CEO of the Gallatin Chamber of Commerce. “We had Wi-Fi before, but it wasn’t consistent or strong due to the challenges of historic buildings. Now, thanks to our partnership with Meta’s Gallatin Data Center, the City of Gallatin, and the Gallatin Economic Development Agency, we’re enhancing and expanding the network to make it accessible and reliable across downtown.”

The Square Search event is more than just a celebration—it’s an engaging way to explore the new mobile app connected to the kiosk. Participants will use the app to solve riddles and uncover historical, cultural, and business-related gems hidden throughout the square. Each stop on the scavenger hunt offers a unique “punch” on a paper passport, and the first 100 participants to reach six special locations will receive fun, locally made prizes.

Passports Ready for Saturday

“The scavenger hunt is a mix of Gallatin’s past and present,” says Kim. “It encourages people to not just visit downtown but to connect with its stories.”

At the heart of the event is the unveiling of the digital kiosk outside the Chamber’s office at 117 West Main Street. This touchscreen station gives users access to local attractions, amenities, restaurant guides, and even two guided tours—a Historic Walking Tour and a Mural Tour—both now easily accessible on your smartphone. (The self-guided tours are the first of many to come.) Visitors can even plan a trip and have it texted directly to their phone.

“It’s especially helpful after hours,” says Kim. “Now anyone visiting downtown can find where to eat, shop, and explore—right at their fingertips.”

With enhanced Wi-Fi, a user-friendly app, and interactive tech bringing Gallatin’s rich heritage to life, the city is blending innovation with charm in the best possible way.
