Garner Street Grind Skateboard Competition Makes Its Debut

The City of Springfield Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the inaugural Garner Street Grind skateboard competition on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Garner Street Park, 200 N. Garner Street.

This free community event begins at 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Pre-registration is required for competitors.

Garner Street Grind will include:

  • Live music
  • Local vendors
  • A free skate clinic
  • A skateboard competition

Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Stafford Sips Co., Prince Cheesesteaks, and Lady Dawgs.

The skate clinic, facilitated by Rocketown, will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is open to skaters of all skill levels. Registration is not required for the clinic.

The skateboard competition will begin at 6:00 p.m., with prizes awarded in three divisions:

  • Beginner
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced

The competition is open to skaters ages 8 and older, and pre-registration is required for all competitors.

Participants ages 17 and younger must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. All competitors are required to wear a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads while participating.

"We're excited to host our first skateboard competition at Garner Street Skate Park," said Martha Haley, Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Programmer. "This event is a wonderful collaboration with community organizations and gives skateboarders a fun opportunity to showcase their skills since the skatepark opened. Whether you like to compete or spectate, it's a great way to end summer break."

Special thanks to Kris King Photography, Cannon Kirk Ford of Springfield, and Serra Chevrolet Buick GMC of Nashville for their generous support.

The skatepark opened in 2024 following community fundraising efforts led by the Kiwanis Club of Springfield. Designed by Hunger Skateparks, the 6,000-square-foot facility features a variety of street skating elements, a mini ramp, and a signature sculpture created by local artist Adam Heffner and his company, Maker Table.
