Highpoint Therapy Becomes First in Sumner County to Offer Neurologic Physical Therapy

Gallatin, TN (Feb. 19, 2024) — Highpoint Therapy Services, a leading provider of outpatient rehabilitation therapy services, announces the addition of neurologic physical therapy for individuals with neurological conditions, head trauma, spinal cord injuries, and more.

Highpoint Therapy believes adding neurologic physical therapy to Sumner County will be a great asset and make it easier for patients to maintain their care without having to travel far distances. It also will help in improving a therapeutic relationship between the patient, their primary care provider, and any other medical specialist they see.

Vance Pounders, MS, PT, DPT, a licensed physical therapist at Highpoint Therapy Services, recently achieved advanced certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). As a Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS), Pounders recognizes the life-altering impact of neurological conditions and emphasizes the importance of specialized care for these patients to help improve quality of life.

"All physical therapists graduate as generalists. Neurological populations require advanced education for optimal skilled care, providing a better understanding of different neurological conditions and improved interventions to help patients," Pounders said.

With only 14 other NCS’s in Middle Tennessee, Pounders stands out as the sole specialist in Sumner County offering care for patients in need of neurologic PT. Pounders, who has a strong background and passion for neurology, brings a wealth of experience to Highpoint Therapy Services.

“I hope to bring better overall evaluative skills and interventions to a population that has been underserved as many of the national physical therapy clinics do not have the staff or resources to fit this population,” Pounders said.

Neurologic PT addresses conditions like strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and degenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s, ALS, and BPBV (vertigo).

Pounders has been a practicing physical therapist since 2020 and obtained this certification after six months of dedicated studying and the successful completion of an 8-hour exam.

Highpoint Therapy Services, located at Sumner Station at Big Station Camp Blvd. and Highway 386, already offers a range of rehabilitation services, including occupational therapy, speech therapy, KickPink breast cancer therapy, dry needling, physical therapy, driving assessments, and LSVT BIG and Loud for Parkinson’s disease. With the addition of neurologic PT, the center aims to further enhance its ability to cater to the diverse needs of its patients.
