Sometimes the biggest acts of kindness begin right here at home.

This year, a beloved local food truck is inviting the Middle Tennessee community to come together in support of one of our own, proving that a caring community can make an incredible difference when neighbors rally around a family in need.

Jennifer and Willie Anderson, owners of Taste of Aloha, are preparing for their fourth annual 808 Day celebration at The Truck Stop. The annual event has become a favorite tradition, celebrating the beauty of Hawaiian culture through food, entertainment, storytelling, hula dancing, and local vendors.

But this year's celebration carries an even deeper purpose.

Every dollar raised during the event will benefit Jennifer's 11-year-old nephew, Caden Stanley of Springfield, as he prepares for another life-changing open-heart surgery.

Before Caden was born, doctors discovered he had a severe congenital heart defect. His parents, Jon and Kaity Stanley, knew surgery would likely be necessary immediately after his birth, but nothing could have prepared them for the difficult journey ahead.

After he was born, Caden underwent open-heart surgery, followed by multiple additional procedures as complications arose. For weeks, he remained in critical condition, spending time on ECMO, a specialized life-support machine that allowed his tiny body to rest while doctors fought to save his life.

Against overwhelming odds, Caden survived.

And so did his smile.

For the past 11 years, he has continued to face regular medical procedures and monitoring while living with oxygen levels around 80 percent—far below what most people experience. Despite the challenges, those who know him describe him as happy, kind, resilient, and incredibly smart.

Now, the time has come for another major surgery.

Doctors expect the operation to dramatically improve Caden's heart function and increase his oxygen levels to nearly 100 percent, giving him the opportunity to enjoy a healthier future and the chance to simply be a kid—running and playing with his younger sisters without becoming dizzy or watching his lips turn blue from lack of oxygen.

While the surgery offers tremendous hope, it also brings significant financial challenges.

Caden's father works full time as a factory supervisor while also repairing vehicles after hours to support the family. His mother remains home caring for their three children, all of whom have been diagnosed with severe autism. During Caden's surgery and recovery, his parents expect to lose income as they remain by his bedside for weeks or even months.

That's why Taste of Aloha has chosen to dedicate its biggest celebration of the year to helping ease that burden.

The event is a beautiful reminder that local businesses are about more than serving great food—they're about serving their communities. What began as a celebration of Hawaiian culture has become an opportunity for neighbors across Middle Tennessee to wrap their arms around a Springfield family during one of the most challenging seasons of their lives.

Guests who attend 808 Day will not only experience Hawaiian culture and cuisine but will also become part of Caden's story. Every purchase made during the event will help support his family as they navigate the months ahead.
