The Power of Community: Eight Girls Sponsored for a Back-to-School Retreat

The weekend before school started, ten local girls gathered at RobCo Retreat for a special Back-to-School Girls’ Retreat hosted by Krislyn’s Kiddos and Furry Friends. What made this retreat possible wasn’t just planning and preparation—it was the generosity of the White House community.

The idea for sponsorships began with a suggestion from Amy Williams of Small Town Startup. At first, retreat organizer Krislyn Mercer tucked the thought away. But when her friend Alex Mabry with Isaiah 117 House mentioned the idea again, Krislyn realized this was the path forward.

“Hearing it a second time made me realize that sponsorships were exactly how this retreat was meant to happen,” Krislyn shared. “I put out a simple request to the community, and within hours we had eight girls fully sponsored to attend.”

The response was overwhelming—and heartwarming. Each of the eight girls arrived at the retreat with joy and anticipation. The day was filled with connection, encouragement, and plenty of fun, offering them a chance to reset before the school year began.

“Their parents also expressed how much it meant for their daughters to have this opportunity,” Krislyn said. “To give back to those who sponsored them, the girls each wrote handwritten thank you notes, which we mailed out as a heartfelt gesture of appreciation.”

What was originally planned as a fun back-to-school bash became something even more meaningful. The retreat offered a safe and supportive space for young girls to bond, build confidence, and feel uplifted as they prepared to head back to the classroom.

Krislyn says the day is proof of what can happen when neighbors come together to support one another.

“This retreat became more than just a day away to make new friends and have fun,” she reflected. “It became a shining example of how love, generosity, and community spirit can open doors and change lives.”

At RobCo Retreat, surrounded by laughter, encouragement, and gratitude, these ten girls experienced the true power of community—a reminder that together, we can make a lasting impact.
