White House Student Selected for Prestigious Medical Program at Yale

This summer, Ava Korrect from White House will join outstanding students from across the nation for the prestigious NYLF Medicine and Health Care program at Yale University.

Ava, a member of the White House High School Class of 2028, is an honor roll student actively involved in HOSA, BETA Club, NHS, and the high school golf team. She has also spent the past 13 years dancing at Smartt Steps.

Her favorite subjects are Health Science classes, where she first discovered her passion for the medical field through both coursework and her involvement in HOSA under the leadership of Mrs. Dani Villafana.

While Ava’s post-graduation plans continue to evolve, her future is clearly focused on healthcare. Originally interested in occupational or physical therapy, she now finds herself leaning toward pre-med studies. She says the NYLF Medicine and Health Care experience will help her narrow down the direction she wants to pursue while also giving her the opportunity to experience dorm life, participate in hands-on learning, and connect with other students who share similar goals.

When asked how she stays positive, Ava shared that while it can be easy to fall into a negative slump, she believes surrounding herself with people and activities that fuel her mind and spirit makes all the difference.

The NYLF Medicine and Health Care program is part of Envision by WorldStrides and provides students with immersive, career-focused experiences designed to inspire future leaders in medicine and healthcare.

“Ava will have the opportunity to meet, work, and collaborate with fellow high-aspiring students from other cities and schools,” said Dr. Jan Sikorsky. “Students are challenged with real-world simulations and hands-on learning that help bring their studies and career interests to life.”

Congratulations to Ava on this exciting accomplishment and opportunity ahead!
