Tucked at the end of a brick-walled shopping center on 31-W, E & E Eyecare offers more than just a place to pick out new glasses—it offers an experience designed to slow life down. With deep teal walls, warm wooden accents, and charming, eclectic decor, the space feels more like a cozy living room than a retail shop. It’s intentional, and so is everything Robert and Cara Enfinger do.
The husband-and-wife team behind E & E Eyecare are no strangers to the optical world. Robert began his journey in high school, spending summers in Pensacola working in his uncle’s optical shop. “They kind of took me in when I was a little lost,” he says. That experience not only gave him direction, it sparked a lifelong career. He went on to work with several companies, eventually spending more than two decades managing Walmart Optical locations.
Cara’s journey began at Walmart in 1996. In 2010, she entered the optical field through Florida’s apprenticeship program. It was intense—over 6,000 hours of hands-on training—but it gave her the licensing and experience she needed to grow. It also brought her to Robert. The two worked side by side, eventually marrying and managing stores together.
In 2019, they transferred to Tennessee for a fresh start. But over time, they found that the corporate culture they once thrived in had shifted. “It stopped being about the people,” Cara explains. “Everything became about numbers—how many glasses did you sell today? How fast can you move someone through?”
Disillusioned but still passionate about optical care, Cara started researching what it would take to open their own practice. “We always joked about it, but I finally said—if we’re going to do it, it has to be now.” She crunched the numbers, mapped out a plan, and presented it to Robert. He was all in.
E & E Eyecare was born out of that leap of faith—a boutique vision experience where people come first. “We’re not trying to see 20 people a day,” Cara says. “We want to spend time with each person, really understand their needs, and help them feel good about how they see and how they look.”
Appointments are intentionally spread out to allow up to an hour per client. From personalized frame styling to detailed lens consultations, every detail is curated with care. And because it’s their own shop, the Enfingers have the freedom to choose the brands, vendors, and styles that align with their values and aesthetic.
Now, as they celebrate their storefront’s anniversary, the couple reflects on how far they’ve come. “It’s scary to start your own business,” Cara admits, “but I’d do it all over again. It’s a joy to come to work. We get to treat people the way we believe they should be treated.”
E & E Eyecare is more than a business—it’s a reflection of Robert and Cara’s shared vision: to help people see clearly, look great, and feel truly seen.
