A Legacy of Love: Small Wonders Enrichment Center Marks 25 Years of Impact

This spring marks a milestone not just for the graduating Pre-K class of 2025, but for the generations of families who have walked through the doors of Small Wonders Enrichment Center in White House, Tennessee. With heartfelt celebration, the beloved local daycare commemorated its 25th anniversary—an occasion made even more special by the moving stories that link past, present, and future.

Founded in 1999 by Helen Redding, Small Wonders was born from a leap of faith and a deep-rooted passion for children. Originally known as Rainbow Woods, the center was once a small childcare facility where Helen’s daughters, including her middle daughter, Leslie Hillis, who now helps lead the program, first discovered their love for early education.

“When the owner decided to sell, my mom didn’t see a daycare—she saw potential,” says Leslie, who gave a touching tribute during the graduation ceremony. “With nothing more than drive and ambition, she built something that’s become a staple in this community.”

Helen’s dedication over the past 25 years has created more than just a learning environment—it has cultivated a legacy. That legacy was beautifully reflected on stage as the Class of 2025 received their diplomas. Among them was Cimberlynn, daughter of Taylor, who graduated from Small Wonders’ very first Pre-K class in 2000–2001. Other graduates included Avery Mantlo, sister to 2022 alum Liam; Finley Brown, cousin of 2007 graduate Kyle Keathley; and Briggs Sherrill, who shares his graduation year with cousin Jaxon Roark, a soon-to-be high school graduate.

The ceremony was also a family affair for Helen herself, who proudly handed diplomas to each of her grandchildren over the years, culminating in her youngest grandchild, Oliver, graduating this year on the 25th anniversary. “Like I said… a legacy she has created,” Leslie shared during the ceremony, receiving resounding applause.

The evening also recognized a few familiar faces from the Class of 2011–2012 who are graduating from high school this month—Cayden Thomas and Katilyn Lee of White House High School. Their former Pre-K teacher, Mrs. Miki Zabadal, was honored for her years of dedication prior to her retirement two years ago.

As the past and present mingled, the future took the stage in the form of three current caregivers at Small Wonders—Maddie Ary, Emma Leftwich, and Makenna Arnett—who will graduate from White House Heritage High School this spring. These young women represent the next wave of caregivers.

Helen Redding’s vision has blossomed into a community cornerstone—one where children are loved, nurtured, and prepared to shine. As Small Wonders looks ahead to its next chapter, the echo of laughter, learning, and legacy remains its guiding light.

Here’s to 25 years of wonder—and to many more to come.
