Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County is proud to unveil The Hudson—the county’s first-ever pocket neighborhood, marking a bold and innovative approach to affordable housing and community development.
Slated to break ground in 2026, The Hudson will feature six beautifully designed, energy-efficient homes built around a shared green space, creating a walkable, people-first neighborhood where connections can thrive. As the first pocket neighborhood in Sumner County, The Hudson introduces not only a new way to build community, but also a new way to make homeownership more accessible.
Each home will be sold through Habitat’s affordable homeownership model, helping working families—often priced out of the market—gain the strength, stability, and security that come with owning a home.
“At Habitat, we meet families every day who do everything right. They work hard, raise their children, pay their bills—yet homeownership remains out of reach,” said Kate Ritchie, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County. “The Hudson brings Habitat’s mission to life in a new, redefined way right here in Gallatin. It’s about creating a place where local families can finally find the stability, dignity, and opportunity they deserve. I believe God puts us in position to do something about the needs right in front of us, and this neighborhood is one way we answer that call.”
Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown shared her support for the project, stating:
“Habitat is an amazing organization that creates homeownership opportunities for many who once thought it beyond their dreams. I’m grateful they’re part of Gallatin, and for the work they do to transform lives—and ultimately, future generations.”

City Councilman Steven Carter, who represents the district where The Hudson will be located, also voiced his enthusiasm:
“I’m so excited about the work Habitat for Humanity is doing. It does my heart well to be in partnership with agencies such as this that are making it their mission to tackle the affordable and attainable housing crisis. In addition to providing homeownership opportunities, Habitat is equipping each family with the necessary tools and resources to maintain their homes and live financially stable lives.”
The Hudson will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes, each thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of local families. In a county where the median home price now exceeds $410,000 and average rent for a modest home is over $2,200, this neighborhood offers a new path forward—where homeownership is within reach for hardworking individuals and families who contribute every day to the life of our community.
This neighborhood represents a landmark moment for Habitat’s work in Sumner County and a bold step forward for affordable housing in Gallatin. Rooted in the needs of the local community, The Hudson reflects years of planning, partnership, and vision. It brings together innovative design and enduring values of connection, dignity, and opportunity. Every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect what makes Sumner County special and to build a future where more families can live, grow, and thrive right here at home.
The Hudson is not just a one-time initiative—it’s a model. Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County hopes to replicate this pocket neighborhood concept in other cities across the county, expanding access to affordable homeownership and fostering community-centered design in more places where the need is growing.
The Hudson is expected to be completed by late 2027. Construction will be supported by volunteers, donors, and community partners, with a capital campaign launching in tandem with today’s announcement.
“This neighborhood will be more than homes. It will be hope made visible,” added Ritchie. “We invite the entire community to be part of it.”
