Community Spotlight: Strength with Purpose—Sergeant Eric Enck’s Mission to Empower White House

In a world that often celebrates climbing the ladder, Sergeant Eric Enck chose something different—he chose home.

Serving as Head of the Community Relations Division for the City of White House Police Department, Eric could have pursued opportunities elsewhere. Instead, he stayed rooted right here in White House, pouring his time, energy, and heart into the very community he loves.

And if you’ve ever met him, you know—this isn’t just a job. It’s a calling.

More Than Self-Defense—A Shift in Mindset

Through his complimentary SPEARE classes—Self-Protection, Environmental Awareness, and Rape Education—Eric is equipping women of all ages with something far greater than physical defense.

He’s teaching awareness. Confidence. Identity.

“The goal is to never have to kick and punch.”

His approach flips the script on what many expect from a self-defense class. Yes, there are practical skills—but the real focus starts long before that.

“Take some time and slow our life down just a little bit…to be aware.”

Eric emphasizes what he calls “a look in the mirror”—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Because awareness, he says, begins within.

Confidence is Protection

One of the most powerful takeaways from his classes?

Confidence isn’t optional—it’s protective.

“Talk to strangers—eye contact and extreme confidence.”

Eric challenges the idea that we should shrink ourselves or avoid connection. Instead, he teaches that presence, posture, and self-worth can often deter danger before it ever begins.

He also speaks candidly about the impact of self-image:

“A lot of young people have a really poor image…a lot of people my age too. Society has groomed us this way.”

And the consequences are real.

“Statistics show if you have low self-esteem, you’re less likely to put up a fight.”

What You Allow In…Matters

In a culture filled with constant noise and negativity, Eric encourages a different standard:

“There’s a direct correlation in what we allow our mind to ingest and what we put out.”

His message is simple—but powerful:

“Don’t allow people into your life that don’t let you radiate.”

Because at the core of everything he teaches is a deeper truth:

“You are God’s handiwork…everybody in here was given a gift pre-birth. Nurture and grow those gifts.”

Kindness and Strength Can Coexist

If you run into Eric around town—maybe grabbing a cup of coffee, hopping on his motorcycle, or stopping into a local eatery—you’ll likely be met with a warm smile and genuine conversation.

He’s the kind of person who makes you feel seen.

But there’s also no mistaking the quiet strength he carries—the kind that doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful.

A trainer at Vanatta’s Martial Arts, Eric lives out what he teaches: be strong, be kind, and be intentional.

“A kind gesture is God working through you.”

A Lasting Impact

In every class he leads, every conversation he has, and every life he touches, Sergeant Eric Enck is doing more than teaching self-defense.

He’s helping people see their worth.

He’s reminding them to slow down, look up, and live with purpose.

And in White House, that kind of impact doesn’t go unnoticed.

Editor's Note: I came across notes from my first S.P.E.A.R.E. class last year and knew we needed to feature Eric in our Community Spotlight. I think we should wallpaper our homes with the truths he shares. Special thanks to the White House Chamber of Commerce for the cover photo.
