What started as a small idea shared between friends has grown into a powerful tradition at White House Middle School — one that continues to brighten hallways, lift spirits, and remind students and staff that kindness truly matters.
For Stephanie Haeberman, a Special Education Teacher at White House Middle School, P.S. I Love You Day is more than a date on the calendar — it’s a message she hopes will one day ripple across the entire county.
“I try to expand it every year, and my hope is that the county will adopt it one of these years so we can keep spreading this message to others,” Haeberman shared.
Stephanie first learned about the movement in 2018, when a friend named Carrie from New York introduced her to P.S. I Love You Day. Her response was immediate.
“I said, ‘We need to do this here in Tennessee!’ It started off small, but it has grown each year,” she said.
P.S. I Love You Day is celebrated annually on the second Friday of February, with participants wearing purple as a symbol of love, support, and mental health awareness. At White House Middle School, the day has become a meaningful tradition since 2018, bringing with it a visible “pop of color” — and something deeper.

“I love the message that this day brings to others — to spread kindness and joy,” Stephanie said. “You never know what someone is going through, and a simple message could brighten their day in many ways.”
Through wearing purple and focusing on kindness-centered activities, the day has created moments of encouragement and connection for both students and faculty.
“This day has brought a pop of color and kindness to the students and faculty that some of us didn’t realize we needed,” she added.

P.S. I Love You Day is a registered nonprofit organization based in New York State, dedicated to eradicating the stigma around mental health. Its mission is to instill hope for those affected by mental illness while fostering a supportive environment where everyone feels welcomed, loved, and supported.
In 2026, the organization will celebrate its 16th annual P.S. I Love You Day on February 13, 2026.
This year’s theme, “Be the Light,” features a lighthouse — a powerful symbol of guidance, hope, and presence.
The organization shares that the lighthouse serves as:
“Help is available, and hope is real,” the organization emphasizes.
