At White House High School, junior McKenzie Smith is turning her faith into action—creating a space where students feel seen, supported, and never alone. Nominated by her peer, Jackson Old, McKenzie is being recognized for the impact she’s making both in and outside the classroom.
“I went into the school year knowing that I wanted to do something,” she shared. “I knew I was a believer—I just wanted to do something with my faith.”
That calling led McKenzie to start a student-led Bible study—despite some initial nerves. “To be completely honest, I was so scared to do it,” she said. “But I realized if I didn’t step up, someone else would. All God needed was my obedience.”

With just three days of planning, the first gathering brought in 10 students. Since then, it’s continued to grow, meeting every other Saturday—often at White House Park—and building meaningful friendships along the way.
“My goal was to give people a place that showed them they aren’t alone,” McKenzie said. “It’s so easy to feel like you’re the only Christian.”
Looking ahead, she hopes to attend a Christian college and pursue ministry in some capacity.
Her advice? “Be a light wherever you go—and remember that kindness is free.”
