For many children, the journey ends when they turn the final page of a favorite book. For Sumner County mom, Meghan Breinig, that ending sparked an idea that is helping young readers discover that every great story can lead to a new adventure.
Meghan recently launched StoryRoot, an innovative website designed to transform a child’s reading experience by extending the magic of books beyond the page.
The inspiration behind StoryRoot came from a familiar experience in her own home.

“I noticed that my kids would finish a book, say it was good, and then move on to the next one. I wanted something that helped them engage more deeply with the stories they loved.”
That desire led her to create a tool that helps children connect with books in meaningful and memorable ways. Parents simply enter the title of a book and the child’s age into the StoryRoot website. The platform then generates a customized “Adventure Pack” that includes a hands-on craft, a science experiment, conversation starters, a real-world exploration challenge, and recommendations for what to read next.
Designed for children ages 5 to 12, the activities are tailored to the child’s age level and use common household materials, making them accessible for busy families.
“I didn’t want to create a curriculum,” Meghan explained. “I wanted something that would meet a child where they already are, with a book they already love, and help them ask, ‘How can I take this further?’”
Her mission goes beyond improving reading skills. “Loving to read is a habit,” Meghan said. “My goal is to help create lifelong readers.”
StoryRoot officially launched at the end of May and is already creating excitement among many parents and educators.
Looking ahead, Meghan has ambitious plans for the platform. Future updates may include personalized child profiles, targeted book recommendations based on interests, and additional ways for children to interact with and reflect on the stories they read.

As a Sumner County resident with strong connections to local educators and librarians, she hopes to explore opportunities for schools and educational organizations as StoryRoot continues to grow.
For now, her focus remains simple — helping children discover the joy of reading. “The magic isn’t in the Adventure Pack, it’s what happens after a child opens it up and decides to take what they’ve read and bring it into their reality.”
With summer reading season underway, StoryRoot offers families a creative way to turn books into experiences—and perhaps inspire the next generation of lifelong readers along the way
