More Than a Match: Station Camp High School Wrestling Shows the Power of Community

For years, Coach Tyler Caron has been the heart of the Station Camp High School wrestling program — a leader known for his passion, integrity, and care for his athletes both on and off the mat.

In just five years, he’s built the team from the ground up, leading them to regional and sectional championships and celebrating the school’s first-ever state champion. His wrestlers and their families describe him as selfless, dedicated, and the kind of coach who shows up for everyone — every day.

So when tragedy struck Coach Tyler’s own family, the Station Camp wrestling community didn’t hesitate to show up for him.

After learning that Coach Tyler had unexpectedly lost his mother — and that her funeral expenses would total an unexpected $10,000 — parents, wrestlers, alumni, and local organizations immediately came together to help. Within 24 hours, the community had raised every dollar needed to cover the funeral costs in full.

“It was incredible to watch,” said Angel Jaeckel, a wrestling parent who helped organize the fundraiser. “We initially talked about collecting money for a small bereavement gift, but when we found out about the financial burden Coach Tyler was facing, we knew we had to do more.”

The effort began as soon as the news spread through the team’s parent network. Messages filled the GroupMe app used by wrestling families, and within hours, donations poured in — not only from Station Camp parents, but also from alumni, former wrestlers, and even rival schools who had come to know and respect Coach Tyler through the sport.

“By Wednesday evening, we had almost all of the funds,” Angel explained. “When we posted that we only needed about $1,700 more, it was covered within minutes. People were still donating days later.”

The generosity didn’t stop at the wrestling community. Local nonprofits like The Jae and Zeke Foundation stood ready to fill any gap, but the community’s overwhelming response made that unnecessary.

For those who know Coach Tyler best, the outpouring of love came as no surprise. “He pours his heart into being a coach, a teacher, a dad, and a friend,” one parent shared. “Seeing everyone come together for him was our way of giving back what he’s given us.”

As the Caron family continues to heal, the support from the Station Camp wrestling community remains steady. Parents and wrestlers are encouraging everyone to continue showing up for the program — by attending matches, cheering from the stands, and supporting the young athletes Coach Tyler mentors daily.

“He’s just blown away,” Angel said. “He keeps saying how grateful he is for this family — his wrestling family — that stepped up in the hardest week of his life.”

In just a few days, a community proved that compassion and teamwork don’t stop at the edge of the wrestling mat — they extend into the heart of everyday life.
