Turning Pain Into Praise: How One Local Musician is Thanking His Healthcare Heroes

Mike Holloway, known to many as “Kuntry H,” has faced an unimaginable health battle since 2019. From partial paralysis and blurred vision to complete nervous system failure, his body has endured crisis after crisis. Most recently, he has been diagnosed with acute renal failure. His prognosis remains uncertain, and his insurance company has begun recommending hospice care.

But for Kuntry, the story doesn’t end there.

“It’s either going to kill me or I’ll make it through,” he says with calm resolve. “Either way, I don’t want people to think about the struggle but to instead think about the victory. I’d rather inspire victories, not negativities.”

That spirit of perseverance is pouring into an upcoming music album dedicated to those who’ve stood by him every step of the way—especially the caregivers at TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center. Since December, Kuntry has spent nearly every third day under their care.

“Everyone knows me here,” he said. “And it’s close to home. Y’all are great. If it wasn’t for the staff, I would not be here today.”

During a recent leadership meeting at TriStar Hendersonville, Kuntry was invited to share a song he wrote during one of his hospital stays. Titled “Not All Heroes Wear Capes,” the track is a heartfelt tribute to the doctors, nurses, and staff who have become like family.

“In the face of a scary medical journey, Mike has gratitude in his heart and took the time to express his sincere appreciation for our healthcare workers,” said Justin Coury, CEO of TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center. “We can't thank him enough for recognizing their talent and compassion.”

Melony Scott, Director of Emergency Services, shared, “Michael is such an incredible, thoughtful, caring human being. He is the one that is sick, but he always has a smile on his face. He constantly brings our team coffee, and during the holidays, he cooked crock pots of soup and food and brought it in for the staff. His song brought tears to all of us.”

Mike is no stranger to national attention. He previously made headlines for his faith-based body armor business, a mission-driven venture that emphasized spiritual protection alongside physical defense. His work earned him a Presidential Accommodation from President Donald Trump, recognizing his efforts to serve and inspire through faith, community outreach, and entrepreneurship.

Though Kuntry is in and out of the hospital, home days are filled with prayer, writing, and soaking in the love of his wife Abbie and their two-year-old daughter, Victoria. Fittingly, Victoria means victory, a daily reminder of the strength to keep going.

“The sicker I’ve gotten, the more I’ve learned to listen,” he reflects. “I’ve always asked God to use me. I finally got quiet enough to listen.”

In that stillness, music began to flow—songs of faith, hope, and deep gratitude.

“No matter how bad everything seems, you cannot lose hope,” he says. “My family keeps me going.”

And through his music, Kuntry is now keeping others going too—reminding us all that even in the darkest times, there is still light worth sharing.
