White House Native Returns Home to Film Passion Project, “Breakout”

Drew Belcher’s journey from the stages of Robertson County to the sets of one of the most beloved TV shows in the world is a story rooted in passion, perseverance, and a deep love for his hometown.

A lifelong resident of White House, TN, Drew grew up immersed in the life of the community—from the fields of Christian Community Schools’ athletics to the lights of local theater. “Sports like baseball, basketball, and football were a year-round thing,” Drew shares. “But it was in community theater with the Robertson County Players where I discovered a love for acting and storytelling.”

That early spark grew into a clear calling. Now a senior at Liberty University pursuing a degree in Film Production and Creative Development: Visual Arts, Drew is already making waves in the industry. This summer, he’s serving as a production intern for Season 6 of The Chosen, the globally popular TV series filming in Texas. Drew first visited the set during a film camp in 2023. Thanks to the relationships formed during that experience, he was invited back—this time, to be part of the team.

“It’s a humbling opportunity,” he says. “To be surrounded by professionals who are passionate about their craft and their message—it’s truly inspiring.”

Drew is now turning that inspiration into action. As part of his graduation requirements, he is writing and directing his own short film, Breakout—an action/drama centered around a 17-year-old female drag racer and her strained relationship with her father. The story tackles powerful themes: the dangers of unchecked pride and ambition, and the complex, often unexpected ways love reveals itself.

But Drew isn’t filming this project just anywhere—he’s bringing the production home. “We’ll be shooting in White House, Greenbrier, and Bowling Green this September,” he says. “It means a lot to share this story in the places that shaped me.”

With a 25- to 30-person crew and a talented cast behind the project, Drew is rallying support from the community to help bring Breakout to life. The production team is working to raise $15,000 to fund the film and has launched a multi-pronged fundraising campaign that includes a series of live concerts throughout the summer. An online fundraising campaign is also set to launch in mid-June.

Local businesses and community members are already stepping up to support Drew’s vision, reinforcing what he’s always known about White House: it’s a town that believes in its own.
